DESCRIPTION

This activity will explore the responsibilities of hazardous chemical process owners and their contract employers regarding employees hired to work on or adjacent to ammonia refrigeration systems. Topics to be covered include the implementation of specific procedures when developing a contractor program that meets both OSHA and EPA requirements, as well as steps that must be taken to confirm a contractor’s qualifications for performing ammonia refrigeration service and/or work. We will also discuss why documentation of contractor selection, training, responsibilities, evaluations, and injury and illness logs is crucial for maintaining a safe workplace.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After attending this IIAR/Academy of Natural Refrigerants learning activity, participants will be able to…

  • List the responsibilities of hazardous chemical process owners and their contract employers with regard to qualifying contract employees.
  • Describe the process for developing a contractor program that meets federal requirements.
