IIAR is the world's leading advocate for the safe, reliable and efficient use of ammonia and other natural refrigerants.  IIAR members share their collective knowledge and experience on committees and task forces to produce consensus documents that address various aspects of the natural and industrial refrigeration industry. Each IIAR committee or task force has broad industry representation including manufacturers, design engineers, contractors, end users, academics, scientists, and/or trainers.  IIAR sets the standard for providing advocacy, education and the most up-to-date technical information to the ammonia and natural refrigeration community.  IIAR members receive significant discounts on IIAR publications as well as free online access to Bulletins, Standards, Technical Papers, and the Ammonia Data Book.  To become an IIAR member click here.

The Refrigeration Piping Handbook

Newly Revised! - Refrigeration Piping Handbook

A guide to modern refrigeration piping – this book is a comprehensive introduction to refrigeration piping as it is practiced in the field.

Originally printed in 2000, this publication has gone through several updates throughout the years.  The 2019 update is considered a cover-to-cover review and edit.  Chapter 1 is significantly different from the last version.

It provides an engineering basis for determining pressure drop in single-phase and two phase-flow regimes as well as determining pressure drop in wet suction vertical risers - based on current research and analysis via full-scale testing. In addition, new nomographs were generated to aid the user with determining pressure drop in various flow regimes.  Parameters for determining pressure drop in stainless steel pipe are now included. The user is also referred to several computer programs that can be used to determine pressure drop and assist in selecting pipe sizes based on varying operating and economic conditions.  Some mandatory language has been changed to non-mandatory and a new appendix has been added which addresses piping and equipment identification.

Non-member Price: $900.00

Piping Handbook purchasers are able to access electronic documents that provide single and two-phase pipe pressure drop values for vertical suction risers as well as a cost optimization program to aid in economic pipe sizing evaluations.  Downloads can be found under Store, Publication Resources, Piping Handbook.

Process Safety Management & Risk Management Program Guidelines, Vol. 1 & Vol. 2

Building on the last 15 years of industry knowledge of both OSHA's PSM and EPA's RMP standards, IIAR's Process Safety Management and Risk Management Program Guidelines comes replete with the benefit of experience from many industry leaders who have developed both consolidated and individual PSM/ RMP programs successfully.  A useful too, this new approach to the Process Safety Management and  Risk Management Program Guidelines provides a template for end users to update or create PSM/RMP programs that will aid in Practically applying management procedures in direct response to PSM/RMP rules and regulations and in establishing and maintaining a safe ammonia refrigeration facility.  IIAR can help you build a PSM/RMP management program for success.

Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM-LC) Summary Guide, 1st edition

The IIAR has developed the Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM-LC) Summary Guide to provide a briefing on recommendations for commercial, retail food, and light industrial end users, engineers, equipment manufacturers and contractors that desire to implement a management program for low charge ammonia refrigeration systems with appropriate regulatory compliance.

IIAR Member Price: $150.00
Non-member Price: $300.00

Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM-LC) Guidelines, 1st edition

The IIAR has developed the Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM-LC) Guidebook to provide a detailed overview of the procedures recommended to implement a management program for low charge ammonia refrigeration systems with appropriate regulatory compliance. Owners of low charge ammonia systems may not be well versed in the terminology and practices required for compliance with the General Duty Clauses of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and state authorities. Further, the new equipment technology available allows the low charge ammonia systems to be used in a commercial, retail food, and light industrial application where technicians and operators are not typically on site and a service contractor business model is the general practice. The ARM-LC Guidebook uses general terms and directions to describe the specific practices and expectations of those involved with installing and using low charge ammonia systems.

Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM) Guidelines, 1st edition

The Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM) Program is a voluntary program designed to help facilities manage their ammonia refrigeration systems in a safe and responsible manner. It is meant to be used by facilities that operate relatively small ammonia refrigeration systems within industrial occupancy as defined by the building code and are not covered by the: Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) Standard (29 CFR 1910.119); the Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Risk Management Program (RMP) Regulation (40 CFR Part 68); or any state-specific PSM or RMP requirements such as in New Jersey, Delaware and California.

The ARM Guidelines outline the program and gives a detailed purpose and explanation for each component of the program and why it is necessary.
