Permit to Work: Ground Disturbance

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM EST

OVERVIEW

Industrial workplaces are often home to buried utilities and electrical/control circuits, underground piping, excavated trenches, and subterranean or semi-buried structures/foundations. “Ground disturbance” activities are those that compact or disturb the ground within a project area and, if precautions are not taken, may result in a substantially increased risk of personal injury and/or damage to underground utilities, structures, or foundations.

As a result, all ground disturbance work is required to be properly planned and organized. Before any work can be allowed to get underway, the potential risks of ground disturbance activities must be assessed, and appropriate work equipment selected. In addition, that equipment should be properly inspected and maintained, and those involved in the ground disturbance work must receive appropriate training prior to the work being performed.

Join IIAR for an informative webinar that will examine guidelines pertaining to "Ground Disturbance" and the implications for industrial refrigeration facilities.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:
  • List required procedures that must be carried out in preparation for work performed near a ground disturbance.
  • Understand the key risks involved with ground disturbance activities and the precautions required to mitigate those risks.
  • Identify responsibilities of individuals involved with approving and performing ground disturbance activities.
