    Part 1 – Introduction to Mechanical Integrity (30 min) Doug Reindl, Professor, University of Wisconsin Madison and IRC–  What is mechanical integrity and why it is important? How do mechanical integrity requirements for plants covered by Process Safety Management differ from plants under the General Duty Clause requirements?  Review of requirements for a written mechanical integrity program and written mechanical integrity procedures.  Understanding the quality assurance provisions of Mechanical Integrity.

    Part 2 – Mechanical Integrity for Piping and Pressure Vessels (90 min) Doug Reindl Professor, University of Wisconsin Madison and IRC – Identifying and prioritizing the mechanisms that degrade the mechanical integrity of piping and vessels.  Overview of methods that can be used for conducting inspections of piping and vessels.  Requirements and methods for visual inspections of uninsulated piping, insulated piping, and piping supports.  Classification of corrosion.  Follow-up quantitative testing – when and how?  Go/no-go criteria for piping.  Requirements for conducting visual inspections of uninsulated pressure vessels, insulated pressure vessels, and support structures.  Classification of corrosion.  Follow-up quantitative testing – when and how?  Establishing minimum wall thicknesses for pressure vessels - go/no-go criteria and associated remediation.  Approaches for managing piping and pressure vessels when replacement is required.  Techniques for preventing corrosion in the future.

    Part 3 – Overview of Non-Destructive Testing Technologies (45 min) Jim Kovarik, VP NDE Technology, Gamma Graphics Services – Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) approaches – what are they, how do they work?  What are the applications?   What are the limitations associated with each technology?  Dye penetrant, ultrasonic, radiography, AE.  Understanding NDT credentialing and considerations in establishing a NDT scope.

    Part 4 – Overview of Mechanical Integrity for Equipment (30 min) Bill Lape, Dir. EHS - Process Safety & Hazard Mitigation   – Determining what other equipment falls within the scope of a plant’s mechanical integrity program.  Mechanical Integrity procedures and methods for other refrigerant-containing equipment such as compressors, heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators, refrigerant pumps, and purgers. What are the key factors that drive the inspections, tests, and routine maintenance to ensure their ongoing mechanical integrity?  How does this apply to recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP)?

    Part 5 – Update on IIAR 6 (30 min) Jacqueline Kirkman, Cargill Meat Solutions – Title, purpose and scope of the standard; how it is part of a mechanical integrity program; outline of the standard (it’s content and sections); the standard vs. bulletins 109 and 110; how mechanical integrity relates to the IIAR Suite of Standards; current status; interesting particulars and hot topics.
