Compliance Awareness for Owners & Executives

Developed and presented by the IIAR Safety Committee
Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM EST

OVERVIEW

Refrigeration industry owners and executives are often unaware of compliance requirements, despite OSHA and EPA fines from $2,000 to $600,000 being issued on a regular basis. One of the complex issues for the refrigeration industry is that industrial refrigeration codes and standards are continuously changing and being updated. In addition, some facilities are now discovering that EPA citations may be levied years after an audit and findings have been issued.  Keeping abreast of guidelines and regulations is a crucial component to safe and compliant operations. Join IIAR as we examine compliance requirements from a C-suite point of view and demystify some common misperceptions regarding process safety.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:
  • Understand how OSHA's General Duty Clause applies to facilities utilizing an anhydrous ammonia process.
  • List the components of OSHA's PSM program and EPA's RMP rule.
  • Discuss the benefits of complying with OSHA and EPA requirements for ammonia refrigeration facilities.
